Mirriam Seddiq

Mirriam Z. Seddiq is the founder and managing attorney of Seddiq Law, LLC, with more than 25 years of experience as a trial lawyer and appellate advocate. She is licensed in both New York and Maryland and has handled hundreds of state and federal cases. 

Mirriam has been voted a Super Lawyer for the past several years, reaching the rank of one of the top criminal defense lawyers in Maryland. She’s appeared in several publications including the New York Times, Fortune, the Christian Science Monitor, Business Insider, The Atlantic and many others. She is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys, the Maryland Criminal Defense Attorney’s Association, and the American Immigration Lawyers Association.

Mirriam began her legal career in 1997 after graduating from Albany Law School in Albany, New York, serving as a prosecutor in the Albany County District Attorney’s Office and then in the Litigation Bureau of the New York State Attorney General’s Office. Following the events of September 11, 2001, she joined the law offices of Terence L. Kindlon and Laurie Shanks, two of New York’s most respected criminal defense attorneys, where she honed her skills as a fearless advocate for the accused and began her lifelong commitment to criminal defense.

Over the course of her career, Mirriam has concentrated her practice on criminal defense, immigration law, and the intersection of the two. She has represented clients in state and federal courts across the country in complex criminal matters, post-conviction proceedings, and appeals, including before the New York State Appellate Courts, Supreme Court of Maryland and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. She also frequently appears in the Federal District Court of Maryland in both Greenbelt and Baltimore and Maryland District and Circuit Courts litigating both misdemeanor cases as well as felonies. 

In addition to her legal practice, Mirriam is the founder of the Komak Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting Afghan refugees as they rebuild their lives in the United States. She is also a frequent legal commentator and writer on issues of justice, civil rights, and immigration.

Mirriam is admitted to practice in Maryland, New York as well as the U.S. District Courts for the District of Maryland Her practice philosophy remains rooted in the belief that every client deserves a fearless advocate and a fair chance.
